There's no CTWFC 70s squad photograph, so here's an image of our new flag. We played the last series of games in the GFA 70s league in glorious sunshine, which made a pleasant change. However, what didn't change was our ability to take the chances we created and to convert more opportunities into goals. We drew 0 v 0 with each of Exeter Strollers, Bristol Utd and WSM  (which was a friendly) , and 1 v 1 with Bournemouth. We finished in 4th place in a league of 10, and since both Bournemouth and WSM finished above us, we can at least claim to have got something out of two well-established and organised teams in the league. We only lost two matches from the eighteen we played, which was the lowest number of defeats other than the eventual winners - Keynsham Town A, who lost just one match - to CTWFC earlier in the season. On the last matchday of the GFA WFL 24/25, Calne's Blacks & Greens again saw some movement in their league positions; the Blacks moved up and the Greens moved down. The overall team performances and final positions where reflective of EPL's Arsenal and Tottenham - they have the potential and desire to take top place, but can never quite manage it - next year is our year! On that note, congratulations to Weston-Super-Mare on taking the champions spot for 24/25. In front of an unusually large partisan crowd, Melksham 65s made their team debut vs Calne at Devizes. Many of the Calne team had played the day before in the Gloucs League, and with 5 of our 7 being north of 70, the question was whether we could keep up with the fresh and youthful legs (including Abbi's) of Melksham. Tense start between these local rivals. We played three periods, and our game plan was to build on our defensive strengths, contain Melksham forwards and get counter attack quickly. First period we went 2 v 0 up through two fine goals by the returning Paul, the first from Richard's interception, and the second from a through ball from Graham. Paul hit the bar three times as we nullified Melksham attacks and countered quickly. Same pattern of play for the second period. GFA WFL 60s 2024/25 On a mild, sunny morning the gloves and beanies were abandoned, and this round of matches would be played in two halves, giving each team the opportunity to play with their backs to the sun. Calne G reens over 60s team picked up a decent haul of 8 points from 5 games in the penultimate round of Gloucester League fixtures.   In the absence of a number of regular players due to holidays and injury the playing s quad was boosted by the late addition of Martin who performed very well in defence when called upon.
