The Ups And Downs Of 65s Wilts County WFL

Image
Abbi H, Laurence E, Phil C, Graham N. Andy G, Paul W, Jeff D. Today was a good day for the CTWFC 65s. It didn’t start off well, after a struggle to find somebody who identifies as a keeper to take injured Rob’s place, it was agreed that each of the squad would take up net duties throughout the course of the games. Laurence put the gloves on to give a quality performance in the first game… and it was much appreciated when he kept them on for the second, third and fourth. Overall the team played well - solid, compact and always posing a threat in a 2-1-1-1 formation. Passing well, more communication and a great work rate all helped.  Andy, Jeff and Phil rotated in defence and gave a strong performance against strong opposition. Abbi and Graham took midfield, and w...

Hungerford's Hunger For Football

Image
A pleasant evening trip down the A4 saw a Calne mixed 50s, 60s, 70s representative team (without a keeper!) play against the lads of Hungerford. The invitation was to give the Hungerford players a taste of competing against another team, and a three team round robin was played out on the immaculate 4G pitch at John O'Gaunt School. Scores weren't kept, but even with 2 CTWFC wins (9 goals scored, 1 conceded) , everybody enjoyed the evening and Hungerford have not lost their appetite for more competitive/friendly games. Thank you and we hope to see you again soon! Contributor: Paul W ⚫ 🟢 _______________ << HOME

60s GFA WFL : The Conclusion

Image
A beautiful, sunny Sunday morning and an early start for the conclusion of the 60s Gloucestershire FA WFL 2023/24. Both the Bs and As are down to the bare bones, with only six players available for each team. The Bs had a hard schedule of five competitive games and a chance to climb the table. In comparison, the As had it easy with only three competitive games.   Here's how it played out...  CALNE TOWN B Keith B, Rob S, Laurence E. Andy G, Jon H, Jeff D, Abbi H. What a finish to the season for the Bs! Three comfortable wins, with two narrow defeats, sent us rocketing up to ninth in the table. The story of the campaign had been of losses by solitary goals to inferior opposition. Today, we reaped the rewards of teamwork, skill and discipline. The results were; beat Hereford one goal to nil, beat Abbeymead Yellows two one, and beat Bishops Cleeve one nil. The two final games were lost by single goals. We should have drawn with Keynsham, but Weston-Super-Mare are league champ...

Calne Town FC 'THE LILYWHITES' Charity Day

Image
Bill, Collin, Rich, Graham, John, Rob, Beefy, Laurence, Bob, Abbi. Hel, Sion, Paul, Martin, Simon. Calne Town FC hosted their annual end of season charity day for Wiltshire Air Ambulance , a charity close to the club's heart. As well as bbq, beer and banter, three games were played through the afternoon, with the walking football sandwiched between two running games (with full-on tackling and above head height also allowed!) .   The walking football was, as usual, a good game played between Calne and Melksham, even though a few of the younger spectators dared to suggest there was some running!  Regardless, the final score was CTWFC 2 v 1 MWFC, and after the game players from both teams had a drink together, discussing the age old question; what does and does not constitute 'running'?  Cheers! A big thank you to  Calne Town FC  for hosting the event,  Melksham Walking Football Club for supplying the markers, the goalposts AND the opposition, and Graham...
