The Ups And Downs Of 65s Wilts County WFL
Abbi H, Laurence E, Phil C, Graham N. Andy G, Paul W, Jeff D. |
Today was a good day for the CTWFC 65s.
It didn’t start off well, after a struggle to find somebody who identifies as a keeper to take injured Rob’s place, it was agreed that each of the squad would take up net duties throughout the course of the games.
Laurence put the gloves on to give a quality performance in the first game… and it was much appreciated when he kept them on for the second, third and fourth.
Overall the team played well - solid, compact and always posing a threat in a 2-1-1-1 formation. Passing well, more communication and a great work rate all helped.
Andy, Jeff and Phil rotated in defence and gave a strong performance against strong opposition. Abbi and Graham took midfield, and with Paul up front all three were involved in the goals.
The first game against Salisbury finished as a goalless draw. This was followed by a 1 v 0 win against Cirencester Phoenix. A late goal from Paul, thanks to a nice assist from Abbi, gave us all three points. Two games in and already we had more points than we accumulated in the whole of the first round.
The last two games against a threatening Swindon and a strong Highworth were tightly contested, and both were lost by small margins. Graham scored past Charlie in the Highworth goal, following a defence splitting assist from Paul. This drew us level and gave us hope, but it was not enough to take any points.
Still room for improvement, but lots of positives.
