60s Wiltshire County WFL 2023 - An Update

Image
The Legend   CTWFC are proud to have fielded the oldest player registered in the Wilts County Walking Football League.  Alan Rosekilly who, at the age of 81,  has kept goal on a couple of occasions this season for Calne Strollers, and he did a great job on 30 July keeping a clean sheet against Calne Striders, helping secure a 1 v 0 victory. It’s possible Alan will be between the sticks again on 17 September - the final match day of the WCWFL 2023 season.   Alan is a stalwart of walking football in Calne and plays regularly at Beversbrook’s Over 65s   Calne Walk-Ball . And… rumour has it he's an Aston Villa fan! The League Wilts County Walking Football Leagues will soon be playing the last match-day of the 2023 season. The results and standings have not been readily available so, to cut a long story short, this table below shows where the teams are to date in the Over 60s League.  On the last match-day, Sunday 17 September, CTWFC Strollers will...

That Golden Goal!

Back Row: Jon H, Graham N, Charlie N, Phil C, Andy B. Front Row: Paul W, Richard G, Alan B. A day to remember!  AAA put on another great 3-touch football mini-tournament, which saw four teams; AAAWFC, STWFC, BWFC and CTWFC compete, not for a trophy or medals but for bragging rights.  After some nice league games and play-offs, the final was a local derby match... Swindon v Calne, and due to time constraints it would be decided with a Golden Goal.  On paper the firm favourites where Swindon, and as expected they took the game to Calne, hitting the 'wood-work' on a number of occasions and allowing Calne keeper Charlie to show the full extent of his goal keeping skills.  But this game wasn't played on paper, it was played on G3 and Calne made and took their opportunity on the pitch.  After a short period of pressure from Calne, Swindon conceded a free-kick around the halfway line. It was quickly taken and resulted in a decisive cross which was met by our num...

Very Slow, Very Easy Yoga Sun Salutation

Image
Following the success and popularity of the pre-match yoga session in Torquay , this Very Slow, Very Easy Yoga Sun Salutation (below) , although not quite as much of a laugh, is still ideal for helping players prepare for their  recreational or competitive  footballing sessions. The Yoga Sun Salutation is an almost complete system of fitness and health. You flex your body in every way except twisting. Take it easy, and with increased practice, you will build flexibility, strength, endurance, balance, and the ability to relax easier.  Typically, the Sun Salutation is practiced 12 times early in the morning. Even if you do fewer repetitions, whatever number feels the best to you, you will be more fit than most people and better on the football pitch! Namasté -  No, not the Brazilian number 10 who rolls around on the floor at every opportunity!

A Weekend On The English Riviera

THE WALKING FOOTBALL CLUBS OF EXETER, CALNE AND MELKSHAM Fresh sea breezes, sunshine, good food, excellent company - the football wasn't bad either! A few days in Torquay at the Hampton By Hilton   with our friends and neighbours Melksham Walking Football Club, all provided the framework for an enjoyable weekend.   Arriving on Friday with wives and partners (WAPS!) we relaxed and, to aid the process, enjoyed a drink or two - not all of which was alcoholic. The following morning both teams prepared for the games ahead with a one hour session of yoga, stretching, and relaxation.  THE MIXED ABILITY YOGA CLASS This turned out to be hugely beneficial as later that afternoon both teams won every game! An overall winner was never decided as CTWFC and MWFC didn't get to play each other. None the less, it's the taking part that matters and it was a very enjoyable set of games against the two teams fielded by our hosts, Exeter Strollers . CALNE TOWN AND MELKSHAM WF TEAMS The ...
