That Golden Goal!

A day to remember!

AAA put on another great 3-touch football mini-tournament, which saw four teams; AAAWFC, STWFC, BWFC and CTWFC compete, not for a trophy or medals but for bragging rights.

After some nice league games and play-offs, the final was a local derby match... Swindon v Calne, and due to time constraints it would be decided with a Golden Goal.

On paper the firm favourites where Swindon, and as expected they took the game to Calne, hitting the 'wood-work' on a number of occasions and allowing Calne keeper Charlie to show the full extent of his goal keeping skills.

But this game wasn't played on paper, it was played on G3 and Calne made and took their opportunity on the pitch.

After a short period of pressure from Calne, Swindon conceded a free-kick around the halfway line. It was quickly taken and resulted in a decisive cross which was met by our number 5, Richard, who took one touch to control the ball before taking the shot. The Swindon keeper was down quickly to block, but the spin on the ball took it over his outstretched body and, after hitting his back, it bounced into the net.

It was the goal that mattered and it is CTWFC who won the bragging rights!

Thanks to all at Abingdon Almost Athletic for another enjoyable afternoon of football, and great pics, which can be seen here on the Abingdon Almost Athletic facebook page.

Thanks also to Swindon and Bicester Walking Football Clubs and the referees.
