Round One: It's All kicked-Off! WCWFL 60s 2025

On a mild, dry day at Green Lane, Devizes, the stage was set for the Calne 60s to start their journey, with the sole intention of going one better than last year's second place.

Perry K, Charlie N, Chris W, Graham N, Dave H.
Pete W, Mark K.

We got off to a flyer against Salisbury with a 3 v 0 win. Some good movement throughout and some well taken goals from Perry (x2) and Mark (x1). The defence was well marshalled by Pete, and keeper Charlie was not really troubled.

The second game against Highworth was very competitive and very even. Charlie was a lot busier and despite taken an early lead from Chris W who poached a goal from the goalkeepers parry we found ourselves 2 v 1 down following two long range efforts. However, Perry was brought on as super sub and got the equaliser with a couple of minutes to go. 2 v 2.

In the third game we came back down to earth with a bump. Swindon won 3 v 1 and thoroughly deserved their win, and our consolation was a well taken penalty by Mark against his brother in the opposition goal.

The fourth game, against Melksham, was a very cagey and close affair. Both goalkeepers were in fine form, especially Charlie making important saves and both defences were well organised. However when one of the Melksham defenders stepped into their own area, Mark again stood up and scored the winner from the spot - 1 v 0.

The fifth and final game was against draw-specialists, Devizes. Not many chances on this occasion but we had a goal disallowed from Chris, as it was deemed the ball was over bar height before he slotted into the back of the net. Dave also had a shot which rattled the woodwork - 0 v 0.

A great effort from everyone and everyone made important contributions from Pete marshalling the back, to Dave and Perry playing the forward roll in their own styles, and skipper Mark for his two fine penalties.

We ended up with 8 points but stand second, three points behind Swindon, after round one - so all to play for.
