6th and Final Round of 60s Wilts League 2024
Runners-Up in 60s Wiltshire League - A Proud Day for All Involved
The Trophy |
Players Medal |
It was a day of tight battles, precision football, and, of course, plenty of laughs.
Watching on with pride was Nicola from Omnium, CTWFC's new sponsor, whose company logo gleamed on the players’ fresh new shirts as they lifted the runner-up trophy. Omnium had seen the potential in our lads, and it’s safe to say they made the right call!
The day kicked off with a clash of the stripes, as Calne took on Melksham in a 0 v 0 draw. Both sides, perhaps still shaking off the remnants of the summer break, kept it cautious but tidy, with Paul hitting the post being the closest either side came to scoring. It was a game of possession and discipline, with defences well-organised and no one willing to make the first mistake.
Keeper, Charlie, deserves a particular nod here - earning a well-deserved clean sheet with his cat-like reflexes. The scoreline may not have reflected the excitement, but if anyone’s looking for a masterclass in walking football positioning, this was it!
Next up was the big one: Calne versus Swindon, a match that had all the hallmarks of a final. Swindon were the team who could snatch the title from CTWFC’s grasp, and the game didn’t disappoint. The tension was palpable, with Swindon breaking the deadlock but it wasn’t long before Calne’s talisman Paul scored the equaliser.
Great keeping again from Charlie and both sides pushed for a winner, but it wasn’t to be. Midfield maestro and captain, Mark had to hobble off halfway through this match, resulting in a more defensive approach. But this Calne team held their heads high, knowing they’d given their all in what was truly a thrilling 1 v 1 encounter.
This win capped off the season in style, with Omnium’s logo bouncing around the pitch as the lads celebrated their final whistle triumph.
Overall, an excellent Wilts League 60s debut to for Chris, who's calmness and skill slotted in nicely alongside our calm and skilful pillars of reliability, Graham and Jeff, with Charlie, Phil, Mark and Paul each making valued contributions.
The Bigger Picture
As for Omnium, their choice to sponsor Calne Town Walking Football Club was, without a doubt, inspired. Nicola, proudly watching from the sidelines, said she couldn’t be happier to see the Omnium name associated with such a fantastic walking football club and players.
