65s Wilts League - Through The Wind And The Rain With perplexity



A wet and windy morning at Green Lane was the backdrop for CTWFC 65s to improve on the last round of games. And, although it wasn't by much, we managed it... with a five point haul, the second highest this gameweek, and the second best goal difference at zero, one less than Highworth!

Calne 1 v 1 Swindon
The opening fixture saw Calne face a strong Swindon side. Swindon took the lead with a superb strike from John F, putting Calne on the back foot. However, late in the game, Calne were awarded a penalty after a Swindon defender wandered into the area. Paul W stepped up and calmly converted, securing a well-earned draw for Calne.


Calne 1 v 0 Salisbury
Against Salisbury, Calne pressed hard for a breakthrough. Richard’s shot was well saved by Rob, the Salisbury keeper, but the rebound fell kindly to Paul, who made no mistake in finding the back of the net. This goal proved decisive, giving Calne a narrow but deserved victory.


Calne 0 v 1 Highworth
The match against Highworth was a scrappy affair, with few clear chances for either side. Unfortunately, Calne conceded the only goal of the game, resulting in a narrow defeat.


Calne 0 v 0 Melksham
In the final game, Calne faced Melksham. Despite creating several good opportunities, Calne were unable to find the winner. The match ended goalless, but the team took positives from a solid defensive display and avoided defeat this time.


Team Performance


Special mention goes to Martin in goal for his reliable presence throughout the event. Defenders Phil, Andy, and Jeff provided a solid foundation at the back, while Ollie and Graham worked tirelessly in midfield. Paul led the line up front and was rewarded with two crucial goals.


Conclusion


The Calne Over 65s demonstrated teamwork, resilience, and competitive spirit across all matches. The event highlighted the group’s commitment to fitness and camaraderie and their ability to bounce back after setbacks. While there were moments where we could have pushed for more, reflecting the values celebrated by the Calne Walking Football community.  The overall performance was encouraging and sets a positive tone for future fixtures.
