Before any kick-off all the attendants; players, referees, staff and spectators, observed a minutes silence in honour of Cardiff's Simon Stokes who sadly passed away since the last round of 60s games .
The rain retreated, the clouds dispersed and the sun shone in preparation for the second matchday of Gloucestershire Walking Football League 24/25.

The energising Omnium sponsored shirts made their debut at the GFA WFL and the Greens started the day well with a comfortable 2 v 0 win over Hereford. It took the team a bit to get going but goals from Paul and then Perry secured the victory, with Charlie rarely troubled in the game.
Unfortunately, the second game against Bristol Utd ended in a 1 v 0 loss despite Greens having plenty of shots on goal but missed opportunities eventually cost us the game. Bristol had been lucky to score as Charlie saved the initial shot on goal only for the ball to spin up into the air over Charlie and into the goal.
This meant the pressure was on for the next game against league leaders Abbeymead. Abbeymead had plenty of possession but some great defending from Chris and Geoff aided by some excellent goalkeeping from Charlie kept them at bay. Our goal game from some clever work from Paul who found space at the edge of the area to get a shot in. Karma then played its part with the Abbeymead keeper suffering the same fate Charlie had against Bristol. This time the ball spinning in the air off his initial save and into net, in fact the same net for the Bristol goal. The win though meant we stayed in touch with the leaders despite the loss to Bristol.
Next up was the Calne Derby, the Blacks having already done Greens a favour by drawing with Swindon. However, that was the end of the favours with Rob in goal for Blacks making some great saves to deny both Perry and Paul. Charlie impressed in goal again but this time through his ability to get over the barriers to retrieve the ball from the wayward shots on the Greens goal. The game ended 0 v 0.
We then had a long wait to play our final game against Bishops Cleave. The wait initially had an impact, and we struggled to get going. Jon fortunately showed the ruthless side of his Bielsa style coaching by subbing himself and bringing Perry on to add some bite in attack. The effect was immediate with Chris hitting a long range shot into the bottom corner. Perry then made it two following a great through ball. Kevin was unlucky not to make it three before we suffered a penalty awarded against us for four running offences. Charlie however was at his best again making a great save with Karma, this time ensuring the ball span over the bar. The game ending with a 2 v 0 win to Greens.
The ten points out of fifteen puts Greens three points off leaders Clevedon in third place with all to play for especially as next up we face the three sides above us.
