Calne Town Greens Kickoff Their GFA WFL 24/25 Season

The playing squad comprised Charlie N, Geoff R, Martin H, Perry K, Mark K, Ollie S and Roger B, with Jon H acting in a coaching capacity from the sidelines.
In the first game we ran out 2 v 0 winners against Keynsham Town yellows, the goals coming from Roger and Mark. It was a fairly routine win, tarnished slightly by a rather nasty looking facial injury picked up by Perry following an accidental collision with a Keynsham player. Aided by Jon’s “plastering” skills, Perry bravely decided he was able to play some part in the following games.
In our next game we achieved a very creditable 1 v 1 draw against our old nemesis Swindon Town. We conceded early on but fought back courtesy of a successful penalty from Mark, following Swindon falling foul under the 4 team running rule. A combination of an excellent save from Charlie and the crossbar ensured we didn’t concede late on.
We then despatched 4 goals past Cardiff City without response in emphatic style, with goals coming courtesy of Mark (x2), Roger and Martin with the goal of the day, scoring with an acrobatic finish from an excellent pass from Roger.
Our final game was a 1 v 1 draw against Barry Town, with Geoff scoring to put us 1 up only for Barry to equalise with almost the last touch of the game. A somewhat disappointing finale, but this shouldn’t detract from a very positive start to the new season.
