Calne Multinationals - 9th Algarve WF Cup 2024

Image
It was always going to be difficult to match last year’s performance following the loss of two key players leaving us with just five Calne players for the tournament.   Some last-minute transfer activity in the Algarve market and a lot of administration however saw us secure the services of two players from local side Ferreiras for the first day. We were also drawn in a tough group with Portsmouth, Odiaxere  (winners of the May Tournament)  and another local side, Tavira.    Joao B , Charlie N, Graham N,  Manuel C . Jon H, Ollie S,  Dave H. Charlie N, Graham N, Dave H. Andreas A, Jon H, Ollie S. Unfortunately, we lost our first game 1 v 0 to Portsmouth and a last-minute strike, and then were beaten 2 v 0 by a very good Odiaxere side  (the eventual tournament winners... again!).   We did however manage to secure a 0 v 0 draw with Tavira in our final game.   Runners-Up in 60s Wiltshire League - A Proud Day for All Involved Graham N, Phil C, Charlie N, Chris W. Paul W, Mark K, Jeff D. Today marked the final matches of the 2024 Wiltshire Walking Football League, and the seasoned veterans of Calne Town Walking Football Club 60s ended their campaign as proud runners-up, just 2 points behind Swindon.  The Trophy Players Medal  It was a day of tight battles, precision football, and, of course, plenty of laughs. Both sides, perhaps still shaking off the remnants of the summer break, kept it cautious but tidy, with Paul hitting the post being the closest either side came to scoring. It was a ...

Calne Town G reens 60s got off to a fine unbeaten start in the first round of Gloucester League fixtures for the new 2024/25 season held at Almondsbury , gaining 2 wins and 2 draws from 4 games played . Additionally we were awarded a win against Cam & Dursley   who were unable to field a team so forfeited their fixtures. Overall we therefore have 11 points from 5 games.   The playing s quad comprised Charlie N, Geoff R, Martin H, Perry K , Mark K , Ollie S and Roger B , with Jon H acting in a coaching capacity from the sidelines .   In the first game we ran out 2 v 0 winners against Keynsham Town y ellows, the goals coming from Roger and Mark. It was a fairly routine win, tarnished slightly by a rather nasty looking facial injury picked up by Perry following an accidental collision with a Keynsham player. Aided by Jon’s “plastering” skills, Perry bravely decided he...
