Maintaining Altitude - Round 4 Of 60s Wilts League

Image
Paul W, Phil C, Charlie N, Perry K. Graham N, Andy G, Mark K. It’s the 4 th  round of Wilts League and the task was to maintain our position at the top and try to put a bit more distance between us and the teams below.  We did both. Two wins and a draw gave us an excellent points haul of seven and consolidated our position with two rounds of matches left in the season. With Swindon B withdrawing from the league (their results for the season will be rendered null and void) and Highworth and Salisbury unable to field teams on the day, meant it was less physically demanding than usual. In addition the games themselves were brought forward by three hours to enable time for players, officials and supporters alike to get home to watch the England last sixteen clash against Slovakia. Although that particular contest ended in a positive fashion, it could be argued that there was more organisation and skill demonstrated by the Calne players earlier in the day! This began with a g...

More Ups Than Downs In 65s Wilts County WFL

Image
Phil C, Steve P, John W, Laurence E, Perry K. Jeff D, Graham N, Andy G. The 65s started against Cirencester minus a number of key names but with Perry back, and new face (to us!) Steve in goal. Perry rattled all 3 structures of the goal as we threatened strongly, and we finally had to settle for a 1 v 0 win from a Perry pen, after one of their defenders had entered the D. Next up, unbeaten Salisbury with a strong side. We got an early goal from Graham after a skilful pass from Perry opened them up. Shortly after, Perry put their goalie and ball in the net with a strong shot - 2 v 0 after 4 mins! We bossed the game until an unfortunate own goal, and had to ride out the last 2 mins with the help of Steve 'The Cat', some ferocious blocking/tackling by our defence, and a post. 2 v 1 to Calne and Salisburys first defeat of this league. Swindon next. Numerous chances and good shots from Laurence and Perry, but we succumbed to clever play from Swindon and lost 1 v 0.  We played fo...

A Little Bit Of Turbulence - Round 3 Of 60s Wilts League

Image
Paul W, Phil C, Charlie N, Perry K. Graham N, Andy G, Mark K, Jeff D. Calne 60s played in the 3rd round of matches of the Wiltshire league, winning 2, drawing 2 and losing 2. Our record now stands at played 17, won 9, drawn 5 and lost 3; total points 32. This keeps us at the top but only on goal difference, and both Swindon A and Devizes (1 point behind) have a game in hand. The day started with a goalless draw against Highworth, although Graham hit the post with a shot that we felt may well have crossed the goal line on the rebound, but a goal was not awarded. We then beat Melksham 1 v 0 with a goal from Mark following a free kick taken by Paul. Our 3rd game against Salisbury was another goalless draw, although we had the better chances to win the game - but as we know, it's goals that win games. Our 4th game was a 1 v 0 defeat against Swindon A and in fairness they were the better side on the day, with few chances created by us. Indeed Charlie kept us in the game with some good...

The Almelo City Cup 2024

Image
Graham N, Perry K, Andy S, Phil C, Terry Mc. Abbi H, Mark K, Nigel L. History repeated itself when, for the 2 nd season running, CTWFC finished 3 rd   (out of 24 teams) in the Herman Finkers trophy at the Almelo City Cup.   The squad, seen above, performed well against opposition from Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and England, again ensuring the club returned with silverware. On Day 1 we finished top of our group with 7 points from 3 games beating a team from Belgium called Walking Bears 3 v 2 with goals from Mark, Perry and an own goal, FC Utrecht 2 v 0 with Nigel and Mark scoring, and drawing against VFL Wolfsburg 0 v 0. On Day 2 we finished second in our group with 4 points from 3 games, beating VFL Wolfsburg 2 v 0, drawing against Raspo Osnabrück 1 v 1, with Abbi scoring our goal, then losing to the eventual winners of the competition from Belgium, Esservee Old Stars  0 v 2.  We then lost in the semi-final 0 v 3 to Iserlo...
