60s GFA WFL: Closing In On A Conclusion

A mixed bag of results on 24 March saw both Calne teams drop a position in the 60s GFA WFL and lots of movement throughout the league:



Abbeymead Rovers 'Yellows'  0 v 0  Calne Town A


Bishops Cleeve  0 v 1  Calne Town A


Bristol Utd  1 v 1  Calne Town A


Calne Town A  0 v 0  Calne Town B


Cam & Dursley  1 v 0  Calne Town B


Highworth Town  1 v 0  Calne Town B


SBL Warmley  1 v 1  Calne Town B


Swindon Town  1 v 0  Calne Town B


Weston-Super-Mare  1 v 1  Calne Town A


The last game-day on 12 May sees the As & Bs play the following fixtures, with a chance to climb the league... but not win it. Though, with the upcoming games, both teams can affect who wins it!

Calne Town Bs have a heavy schedule: Abbeymead Rovers, Bishops Cleave, Hereford FC, Keynsham Town and league leaders Weston-Super-Mare. 

Calne Town As, with just three games, have it a little easier: SBL Warmley, Swindon Town and Clevedon Town.

Our latest club Christmas dinner was held at the Dumb Post Inn on the 21st with just under 40 footballers and their wives/partners joining for the evening. As well as enjoying fine food and plenty of banter, the highlight of the evening was the presentation of the club awards for 2024.  Phil C started by thanking Nicola at  Omnium  for the welcome sponsorship provided in 2024, and expressed the hope that the partnership would develop to the benefit of both club and  Omnium  going forward. Then on to the awards, preceded with 'thanks' to Paul W, in his enforced absence, for designing not just the club kit but also the award certificates  (in club colours, of course!)  which were presented on the night. Hungerford Without Bert

The All Stars were invited to an evening tournament with our Hungerford  friends at their John O'Gaunt 3G centre and, with storm Bert unable to flood this particular venue, it was a successful evening. The format was originally 6-a-side and as Hungerford could field two squads  of 7 and wanted to give them both game time, we agreed to the change as we  had 6 and a sub. Both games were 12 minutes in duration with a half time  switch around. The pitches played well given the very heavy rainfall over  the weekend. The Calne squad comprised Charlie N in goal, a defence of Graham N and Andy  S, a midfield of Bob B, Kevin G and Rob H with Sion up front.  Hungerford played two strong sides and we found Hungerford's first team well  organised and they moved the ball around like the experienced team they  are. Round 1: It's All kicked-Off! WCWFL 60s 2025

On a mild, dry day at Green Lane, Devizes, t he stage was set for the Calne 60s to start their journey, with the sole intention of going one better than  last year's second place.   Perry K, Charlie N, Chris W, Graham N, Dave H. Pete W, Mark K. We got off to a flyer against Salisbury with a 3 v 0 win. Some good movement throughout and some well taken goals from Perry (x2) and Mark (x1). The defence was well marshalled by Pete, and keeper Charlie was not really troubled. The second game against Highworth was very competitive and very even. Charlie was a lot busier and despite taken an early lead from Chris W who poached a goal from the goalkeepers parry we found ourselves 2 v 1 down following two long range efforts. However, Perry was brought on as super sub and got the equaliser with a couple of minutes to go. 2 v 2. In the third game we came back down to earth with a bump.
