Football and Cake In Maidenhead

This is our third appearance at Maidenhead's annual Macmillan Coffee Morning WF tournament. Despite putting up a good show we didn't get through to the knockout stage and therefore didn't come away with a trophy. 

However, this is one of those walking football events where the important thing is the taking part, it was another enjoyable day with good games of football and, as always, excellent cakes.

Thanks once again to the organisers, the referees, the opposition teams, the sport therapy students, the supporters and those excellent cake makers. And congratulation to the winners, our friends and neighbours, Swindon Town Walking Football Club.

Having started the day in 2nd place in the WCWFL 60s, we had high hopes of maintaining that position, and with a few changes to the squad from match day one, it took a little time to settle. We started off with Highworth. Although we dominated possession and created a number chances Highworth proved difficult to break down. Also with a number of players not having played together before we were a little disjointed. However, two well taken goals from Mark settled us and, in all honesty, John had little to do in goal. Then the crunch game against Swindon. It was a tight game with some pride at steak and although Swindon had most of the possession the team structure meant few chances were created and most of those fell to Swindon, but with Steve at the back and John in goal we were always in the game, albeit on the breakaway. Round 3: Can We Keep It Up! WCWFL 60s 2025

Calne over 60s team picked up 7 points from 5 games in the latest round of fixtures in the Wiltshire League , which were played at the recently opened 3G pitch, on a particularly chilly day in June at Stanley Park, Chippenham .    We remain top of the league on a day when we recorded wins over the teams who were occupying the 2nd and 3rd positions at the start of the day but conversely lost to the two teams at the bottom of the table. This goes to show how evenly matched all six teams in the league are, with most games being decided by a single goal.  Dave H, Chris W, Graham N, Paul W. Pete W, Charlie N, Pete C, Mark K (c). The playing squad was Charlie N in goal , Pete W in defence, Chris W , Pete C , Graham N and Mark K in midfield and Dave H and Paul W alternating in attack. A wet and windy morning at Green Lane was the backdrop for CTWFC 65s to improve on the last round of games. And, although it wasn't by much, we managed it... w ith a five point haul, the second highest this gameweek, and the second best goal difference at zero, one less than Highworth!    Jeff D, Richard G, Andy G, Phil C, Martin P, Graham N (c), Ollie S, Paul W.
