GFA WFL 70s Champions 2022/23
Like a long-distance runner sneaking up the inside as the leaders watch each other, Calne Town scored a late goal in the last match of the 2022/23 season- and snatched the league title away from the long-term leaders.

CHAMPIONS
Having entered the competition late on the withdrawal of another team, Calne were always playing catch-up. But, after matches in November, January and February, Calne were respectably placed after 4 wins and 8 draws.
The last round on 22 March saw tight victories against two leading teams, Weston and Bristol. A win in the last match was vital to retain any hope of winning the league. With two leading teams cancelling each other out in a scoreless draw, we needed a goal against Keynsham B in a game we completely dominated. In the closing minutes, Richard G seized on a loose pass and slotted home.
We’d won the league by one point!
