Hungerford Without Bert

Image
The All Stars were invited to an evening tournament with our Hungerford  friends at their John O'Gaunt 3G centre and, with storm Bert unable to flood this particular venue, it was a successful evening. The format was originally 6-a-side and as Hungerford could field two squads  of 7 and wanted to give them both game time, we agreed to the change as we  had 6 and a sub. Both games were 12 minutes in duration with a half time  switch around. The pitches played well given the very heavy rainfall over  the weekend. The Calne squad comprised Charlie N in goal, a defence of Graham N and Andy  S, a midfield of Bob B, Kevin G and Rob H with Sion up front.  Hungerford played two strong sides and we found Hungerford's first team well  organised and they moved the ball around like the experienced team they  are. Overall, we played well in a tight first game and despite the  scoreline, we were comfortable against their second team. Game 1 It was clo...

70s Climbing Up The Table In The GFA WFL

Image
After a disappointing first series of games which saw us sit in 8th place of 10 at that point, CTWFC Over 70s had a much better set of results in today's fixtures.  First up were WSM, who started the day on top of the league having not lost a game in the first round of matches. We beat them 1 v 0 with a powerful shot from Mel, and played really well in order to hang on to that lead.  We then met Bristol United. In the first half we were all over them but just could not score, whilst Bristol didn't even manage a shot. We even conspired to miss a penalty. In the second half, two mistakes opened the door for them and they took both opportunities and ended up winning 2 v 0. Very disappointing. However, we bounced straight back in game 3 against a Bournemouth team who started the day in 3rd place, and featured three England players in their line up. Another cracking shot from Mel, followed by digging in defensively to hold the lead - aided and abetted by our post and the crossbar, ...

Blacks and Greens - 3rd Matchday of GFA WFL 24/25

GFA WFL 60s 2024/25 With new signings, transfers and a few squad changes, CTWFC's Greens and Blacks gathered at Almondsbury for the last GFA WFL matchday of 2024, and as the drizzle dissipated... the challenge to earn points began.  Blacks Jeff D, Tony N, Rob S,  Phil C, Paul W. Andy G, Graham N, Mark P.  For the third matchday of the 60s GFA WFL, at Oaklands Park Stadium, the Calne Blacks was a strong one: Rob S in goal, Jeff D and Phil C in defence, debutant Mark P, Andy G and Graham N in midfield, Paul W sharing midfileld and attack and Tony N up front. We started the day with a 3 v 0 awarded win vs old rivals Highworth for their no-show.   In our first match, against mid-table Bristol, we put out an attacking line up, dominated the game and won 2 v 0. Two goals from Tony, the first from an exquisite assist from Paul who opened up their defenders. Next up high-flying Abbeymead and their many Gloucs County players. Even game. But unluckily lost 0 v 1 to one single ...
